It's quite inspiring for those of us involved in non-violent movements today ^_^ <br /><br />Obama seems like a perfect candidate for demonstrating Niehbur's idea about "power corrupting"; I believe that his personal convictions lean toward peace and justice, but the institutions he's a part of force him to act and speak in contradiction to them. Just as good-hearted bosses and capitalists are must race to the bottom to stay in business, he has to kow-tow to finance capital, health insurance industries, the military-industrial complex, et alia... just to ensure his continuing relevance. <br /><br />The power of Martin Luther King Jr., Ghandi, Mandela, and the like had to create change they ONLY had because they were radically outside of the institutions they were targeting.
